The Odense International Film Festival was established in1975. Since then it has been held concurrently with the Danish Film Festival, which is held annually in Odense every August.

The festival comprises two international competition programmes: The International Competition programme, designed to present unusual short films with particularly imaginative and surprising content. The National Competition programme, which presents the best short film of the year and the best documentary of the year.

The festival is arranged with the co-operation of the Danish Film Institute and the Odense City Council.
