The Danish Cultural Institute is an independent institution under the Danish Ministry of Culture. It was established in 1940 and is governed by a Board of Representatives, who in turn elect a Board of Directors. The Secretary General is the Chief Executive of the organisation.
The mission of the Institute is to strengthen international understanding by arranging cultural exchanges and informing about Danish arts, culture and society abroad and about foreign culture in Denmark. Activities include exhibitions, concert tours, films, theatre and dance performances, literature, study tours, lectures, conferences, seminars and Danish classes.
The head office is situated in Copenhagen with branch offices in Great Britain, Benelux, Germany, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russian and China.
